Visionaries: Making Another Perspective

The exhibition Visionaries: Making Another Perspective is now open at Higashiyama Cube, inside Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art, aiming to provide a new perspective on human capabilities during a time of significant social change characterized by advancements in technology and increased environmental awareness. Curated by Kawakami Noriko, the exhibition features twenty artists (individuals and collectives) who are shaping the art and design scene of Japan through flexible approaches that are attentive to the history of humans and the earth. Their work and activities emit a boundless energy towards creation and deftly connect and reinterpret the relationship between past and future, nature and artifice, and the information environment and real society.

Nao Tamura is one of the artists participating in this exhibition, with an installation of Flow[T]. The pendants unique design and translucent material make it look like a fluid, living organism that has been frozen in time. They feature a subtle gradient that mimics the ebb and flow of water, creating a sense of movement and fluidity that mingles with the architecture and exterior of the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art.

“Glass is a living material and if the maker does not listen to it and follow its inherent natural flow, it will break. As humans, our natural tendency is to master and control all that surrounds us. Glass lives a life of its own and the master must bow to its needs. I see glass as a metaphor for man’s need to relinquish his mastery of the medium and learn to bend along side of it, work with it and not against it.” – @nownao
