VENICE GLASS WEEK 2020

Marea

WonderGlass and atelier oï present Marea, a collaborative limited edition glass artwork inspired by water, that explores natural materials and craft.

Designed by the Swiss transdisciplinary studio atelier oï, Marea was named for its reference to the rise and fall of the tide and mirrors the impression of light moving on water. Stacked suspended disks of clear glass feature radial micro grooving on the base, a pattern that when lit reflectively, creates a shimmering effect reminiscent of sparkling stars on the water. Several magnetic pendulums float above the glass disk to suspend it, further adding to the pattern of light and shadow adding to the sensation of rippling water.

Experimentation and deep respect for craftsmanship have been pillars of atelier oï since its inception close to thirty years ago. Founders Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis, and Patrick Reymond chose to collaborate with WonderGlass’ master craftspeople to bring their vision of Marea to life.

Marea will be on exhibition at AB4.0 on Murano for the duration of Venice Glass Week.
