VENICE GLASS WEEK 2017
Light Blowing
WonderGlass presents a selection of its most exquisite chandeliers in the group exhibition Light Blowing at the newly refurbished Murano Gallery LUab 4.0.
In celebration of the inaugural Venice Glass Week and curated by Illaria Ruggerio and Samantha Punis, Light Blowing is a group exhibition that presents the richness and complexity of the production of hand-blown glass lighting today. The exhibition showcases work by nine of the world’s best artisans in hand-blown glass lighting.
To showcase the diversity in design expressions and technical finesse, WonderGlass presents a series of three lighting designs that the London-based studio has created together with leading design talents; namely Luma by Zaha Hadid, Komori by nendo, and Flow[T] by Nao Tamura.
Each crafted in Murano glass by WonderGlass ateliers on the island, the three chandeliers not only form sculptural lighting objects for architectural spaces but pushes the boundary for the application of modern technologies with hand-blown glass.
Made from gradient frosted glass and mounted on black rods, Flow[T] by Nao Tamura is inspired by the colours of the Venetian lagoon. Much like Flow[T], the Luma chandelier by Zaha Hadid makes a sculptural display when hung in clusters. Made from rippled Murano glass, the tubular segments softly diffuse light, creating an ambiance particularly suited for larger spaces. Finally, Komori by nendo features evenly spaced glass shades connected to a circular ring, reminiscent of a colony of bats hanging upside-down from a tree branch.
Exhibitors in Light Blowing include: Bomma / Simone Crestani / Esther Patterson for Curiousa & Curiousa / Doris Darling / Fabio Fornasier / Jarslav Bejvl Jr. for Preciosa / VI + M Studio and Karim Rashid for Purho / Studio Furthermore / Zaha Hadid, nendo and Nao Tamura for WonderGlass.
