ONENESS

by ROSS LOVEGROVE

Ross Lovegrove explores the concept of oneness as an act of balance. The sculpture’s central convergence of points never truly connect, referring to the sense of disconnection expressed by so many – and at so many scales – around the world in very recent years. Designed during the ‘high quarantine’ period of 2020, Oneness’s blown glass technique takes the ultra-politicised breath as its literal and metaphorical terrain. The unequal near-convergence at the sculpture’s heart ‘cut through’ the breath which fills its void, thereby suggesting that while we all breathe the same air, for many across the divides of class, race and other intersectional realms of identification, this scientific reality is experienced more as political myth.

Oneness is a one-of-a-kind piece produced as a prototype for the Spirit of Resurgence exhibition in Venice Glass Week 2020.
