WonderGlass and atelier oï present Marea, a collaborative limited edition glass artwork inspired by the behaviour of the water, that explores natural materials and craft. Designed by the Swiss transdisciplinary studio atelier oï, Marea, named for its reference to the rise and fall of the tide, mirrors the impression of light moving on water. Stacked suspended disks of clear glass feature radial micro grooving on the base, a pattern that when lit reflectively, creates a shimmering effect reminiscent of sparkling stars on water. The suspended pendulums are seen to float above the glass, held by the earth’s magnetic forces, adding to the spectacle of moving light and pattern that replicates rippling water. Experimentation and a deep respect for craftsmanship has been one of the pillars of atelier oï since its inception close to thirty years ago, with founders Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond choosing to collaborate with the master craftspeople at WonderGlass to bring their vision of Marea to life.
atelier oï was founded in 1991 in La Neuveville, Switzerland, by Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond. The name oï, derived from the Russian word 'troïka', a team of three, conveys the dynamism and holistic energy generated by a trio. atelier oï is the result of an alliance rooted in humanity and art alike. The founders' deep involvement with architecture, design and naval construction, as well as the encounter with charismatic personalities such as Alberto Sartoris and Ettore Sottsass, have shaped atelier oï's philosophy.
