PIED-À-TERRE IN NEW YORK

The interior project by Grade Architecture and Interior Design of this Brazilian family’s New York pied-à-terre begins with a painting by Ellen Gallagher. The apartment is a 4,300-square-foot space in a West 21st Street building designed by Foster + Partners where art takes a central stage throughout the entire decor.

The decor is soft and neutral, with tones of beige and white that create a distinctive effect of elegance in a perfect balance between design and art, where works of Josef Albers, Annie Morris, and Lucio Fontana are featured.

In the living room, an installation of Momento by Nao Tamura is delicately harmonised by the bespoke canopy designed by Grade: a floral form made of suede panels that disguises the electrical system while enhancing the allure of Momento.

“The idea was to have petals sort of flowering out of the ceiling and that you could imagine water drops falling down onto a table, spilling off onto the floor,” said the Architecture studio. Following this watery theme, Momento is in fact the representation of the moment in which a droplet falling is almost touching the water, frozen forever on time in a stylish grace.
